The Next House Copenhagen Reviews A Luxury Hostel

Next House Copenhagen Reviews

The Next House Copenhagen is a luxury hostel in the heart of Copenhagen. This hostel has a very unique feel with pod-like bunk beds and lots of amenities featured in the hostel itself. They have 433 rooms and 1600 beds in the hostel alone, which makes it currently the largest luxury hostel in Europe (currently).

I stayed at the Next House Copenhagen for two nights which were gifted to me by the Next House Copenhagen hostel, I won a pitching competition at a travel conference which I was very delighted about. I had never stayed in a luxury hostel before so this made a pleasant change to all the other hostels I have stayed in in the past. All views are my own.

What does the Next House Copenhagen include

Dorm/Private Rooms

You get a choice between 4 or 6-bed dorms. They also have private double rooms. If you choose a twin room you will get a private 4-bed dorm but just used between two people. All rooms come with an ensuite. Some 6-bed dorms have a separate toilet and shower in the dorm. In all the other rooms the bathroom is just one room (with a shower, toilet, and sink all in one room). There are also accessible rooms available. For more information, you will need to phone up the next house Copenhagen to enquire as there aren’t available on their website.

What’s included in the dorm rooms?

Next House Copenhagen Check In

Check-in begins at 15:00 and it is very busy at this time. I would suggest coming around 4/5 to avoid these long queues if you can.

Next House Copenhagen Check Out

Check-out is at 11:00. To check out you simply leave your key card in one of the drop boxes near reception. No need to speak to anyone.

What’s not included?

Lockers for Luggage Storage

If you do arrive at the hostel early the next house Copenhagen does charge for luggage storage where you rent lockers:

  • 3 hours for 20 DKK,
  • 6 hours for 35 DKK, and
  • 24 hours for 50 DKK.

This service is card only and is located on the -1 floor.

Next House Copenhagen Breakfast

Not all rooms include breakfast so be sure to check. If it is not included in your room rate it costs 49 DKK (approx £5.65). This consists of a toastie with a choice of turkey, ham and cheese (you make it yourself) and also some cereal such as granola, grains and toppings such as raisins and coconut shavings. There was only one choice of fruit each morning so I either got an apple or a pear. I personally found the breakfast here very bland and it was the same every day. If you are staying for more than two nights I would suggest eating out for breakfast. The Danish pastries are amazing.

Breakfast is located in the Eatery attached to the next house. Although breakfast in the eatery is convenient when staying at the next house in Copenhagen, I wouldn’t pay for breakfast here every day if you stay for more than a couple of days. There are some wonderful bakeries and breakfast joints in Copenhagen but for budget-friendly and easiness, the breakfast at the Next House Copenhagen is a good option.

Next House Copenhagen Pizza

At a cost of 99DKK, you can get a pizza buffet at the next eatery in the next house copenhagen. There was a choice of a variety of pizzas and plates of pasta available. I personally preferred the kinds of pasta to the pizza. Definitely worth looking into if you want a filling meal. The pizza buffet is located at the next eatery in the hostel(same location as breakfast).

Laundry

Laundry is at an additional cost to the room rate of 20 DKK for the washer and 20 DKK for the dryer. You will need to bring/buy your own detergent. This is self-service so you can use the laundry room when it suits you.

Note: To use the laundry you will need to get tokens from reception. The machines do say they accept 20DKK (no change given) but when I was there someone’s coins got stuck in the machine. If you head to reception and pay the 20DKK you will receive a token you can use instead.

Gym

There is a gym at the next house Copenhagen at the cost of 20DKK for your entire stay. To book head to reception for a wristband. Also, make sure that they scan your key card so you can enter. This is the same key card you use for your room.

Sports Arena

The sports arena is so unique, I personally have never seen this in a hostel before. At a cost of 20 DKK, you can use this for the duration of your stay. To book head to reception for a wristband.

Next House Copenhagen Kitchen

On a budget? the Next House Copenhagen has got you. This self-service kitchen is on the roof so not only are you saving money on food you get incredible views too. This is at a cost of 20 DKK for your entire stay. To book head to reception for a wristband. You can have the choice of sitting inside or outside.

To get access to the kitchen, gym and sports arena you can buy a wristband at reception for 20 DKK each. If you would like to use all three of these amenities there is a deal for 50DKK so you can use everything.

Next House Copenhagen Rooftop Bar

The next house also has a rooftop bar with fantastic views. I even managed to see the Tivoli fireworks from here. Definitely worth popping by to meet new friends.

What does the next house Copenhagen hostel have to offer?

  • A rooftop bar
  • Next Eatery (where they serve breakfast & dinner)
  • Yoga Room
  • Games room with table football and board games (free)
  • Shuffleboard (costs 50DKK for one hour for the shuffles)
  • Rooftop Self-Service Kitchen (additional 20DKK)
  • Gym (additional 20DKK)
  • Sports Arena (addtional 20DKK)
  • Every room has an ensuite – whether you are in a dorm or private

Next House Copenhagen Cinema

There is a cinema room at the next house Copenhagen where you can watch Netflix or any movie of choice. There are bean bags and benches for you to sit and relax, chat with friends or enjoy your favourite tv show on the projection screen.

You can also hire a bike at the next house Copenhagen.

  • 6 hours for DKK 75
  • 24 hours for DKK 125,

I also found a cheaper bike rental, an app called “Donkey Republic” (available on IOS and android) which has the following prices:

  • 24 hr 99DKK
  • 48 hr 139DKK
  • 72 hr 169DKK
  • Weekly deal 249DKK

As I was in Copenhagen for 6 days it was cheaper for me to get the weekly deal. To lock/unlock your bike you use the Donkey Republic app (which requires Bluetooth). There is a lock on the back wheel of the bike so no one can steal it and on the Donkey Republic app, it will show whether it has been rented or not.

Next House Copenhagen Booking

I use Booking.com, Hostelworld or Agonda and check which one is the cheapest (they all do the same rooms but prices really do vary) If you require an accessible room you will need to phone up the hostel directly as these aren’t available to book.

Rooms available at the Next House Copenhagen:

  • 6-bed dorm
  • 4-bed dorm
  • 6-bed dorm private
  • 4-bed dorm private
  • Double Room
  • Twin Room (this is a 4-bed dorm however only two of you are in there)

All rooms come with an ensuite, hairdryers, free wifi, towels and bed linen.

Copenhagen Airport to the Next House Copenhagen

The fastest and easiest way to get to the next house Copenhagen from the airport is by train. From Copenhagen Airport head to Copenhagen central station. The journey takes 13 minutes and trains come every 20 minutes. From there it is an 8-minute walk to the next house Copenhagen. The cost is 36 DKK for a single journey. You will need to purchase your ticket before you go on the train. There are no barriers. If you don’t purchase a ticket and get caught, I have heard the fine is pretty hefty. I bought my train ticket from a self-service machine (handy as you can change the language to English) and paid with a card.

What do I need to pack to stay at the next house Copenhagen?

  • A lock (for the lockers to lock away your valuables)
  • An eye mask and earplugs – this eyemask is contour so there is no pressure on your eyes and these earplugs are silicone which I have found more comfortable for sleeping in.
  • Flip flops (I like to use these for the bathroom and double up as sandals)
  • A backpack – this particular backpack is anti-theft (if you are cycling they are very convenient and are also handy for carrying groceries/shopping)
  • International travel adaptor with an extension cable (so you can charge more devices at once)
  • Comfortable shoes/trainers – for doing lots of walking and or cycling
  • Workout gear (if you intend to use the sports arena or gym)

Additional Information about The Next House Copenhagen

As you turn right on a TV at the entrance of the Next House Copenhagen, there is a list of activities available to you in the hostel. These include a free walking tour of Copenhagen as well as a yoga class or even a football tournament in the sports arena. These are a great way to meet new people and I encourage everyone especially if you are going solo to take advantage of this.

There are some lovely communal areas in Next House Copenhagen. I particularly liked the slopping stairs which lead to the bar. They have some comfy cushions, sofas and many tables and chairs for you to do work from if you work remotely. This is also a great place to meet people.

Please note: To check conversion rates I’d recommend downloading the XE app. Also, make sure that you have no foreign exchange fees on the intended card you wish you use. If you need help with this check out Most Useful Travel Cards For Budget Travellers UK for more information.
