Viking Line Tallinn Helsinki Brunch Buffet

I would highly recommend the Brunch Buffet on board the Viking Line Tallinn Helsinki. There were a lot of options even for the most fussy eaters. A huge range of drinks including coffee, tea, hot chocolate or juice. They even had desserts – I had the mango sorbet which was as expected delicious.

Viking Line Tallinn Helsinki Brunch Buffet Cost

€23 – It is 10% more expensive if you purchase on board.

Viking Line Tallinn Helsinki Cabins

The cabins were a good size, clean and comfortable. If you need some privacy these are perfect however I wouldn’t say they were necessary.

If you like karaoke you are in luck as you can perform on the stage. In the evening there is a professional who takes over so get there sooner rather than later.

There is a duty-free shop on board if you want to stock up on alcohol or buy any souvenirs.

Do you need a passport for ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki?

Yes, as you will be entering another country you should ALWAYS bring your passport with you. Having said this when I went they didn’t do any passport checks but I would recommend bringing your passport with you just in case as I’ve heard they do check occasionally.

Is the ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki rough?

I wouldn’t say it was rough but you could feel it shake at times but it wasn’t choppy that you felt sick. If you do suffer from travel sickness I would recommend taking a sea sickness tablet just in case.

Is Tallinn worth a day trip from Helsinki?

Yes, although it does take 2 and a half hours to get from Helsinki to Tallinn. The ferry I went on left at 10.30 am and arrived at 1 pm. The ferry back to Helsinki is at 5 pm. So you will have around 3 maybe 3 and a half hours to explore as you will need to back on the ferry at 4.30/4.40 to depart at 5 pm.

Estonia is a lot cheaper than Finland and a lot of Fin’s go to Estonia for alcohol in particular. I also found it a nice day trip as Tallinn is small and walkable.

Helsinki to Tallinn Ferry

Although Viking Line was the ferry I took to Tallinn other ferries also go to Tallinn but be aware that they will probably leave from a different terminal.

The Silja Line also does a Helsinki Tallinn route as well as Helsinki to Stockholm. If you are interested in going to Stockholm from Helsinki then check out my post here.

Resources for visiting Helsinki

Looking for things to do? Check out GetYourGuide or Viator for affordable tours and activities.

For hostels use Hostelworld. They have a feature where you can chat with people going to your hostel before you get there. If you looking to stay in a hostel I would recommend The Yard Hostel Helsinki it’s affordable and has a great central location.

If you want a hotel or apartment use Booking.com or Agonda. I search both sites and book with whichever has the best deal.

Download the HSL website/app for public transport around Helsinki. I’d advise getting the app before you arrive if you plan to use any train or tram in Helsinki. You can also get day/weekly passes through the app. To and from Helsinki airport you will need an ABC ticket which currently costs €4.10 one way. Make sure you purchase your ticket BEFORE you go on any public transport.

If you want to drive, look at Rentalcars.com to compare car rentals worldwide.

RailEurope helps you to compare train prices and gives you live departure times.

Use Flixbus for buses for a cheaper alternative to trains.
