a Hidden Gem: The hidden Garden Hostel Chiang Mai Review

Hidden Garden Hostel Chiang Mai

The Hidden Garden Hostel Chiang Mai is among my favourite hostels I have ever stayed in. They have incredibly friendly staff, a choice of private or dorm rooms all of which were incredibly clean and there is also a very small but lovely swimming pool.

Is it your first time in Thailand? Check out my guide for everything you need to know before you visit.

What I loved about the Hidden Garden Hostel Chiang Mai

What I loved about the Hidden Garden Hostel Chiang Mai is the tours that they have on offer every day including a day trip to the sticky waterfall, a cooking class and a day trip to don sui.

It has very quick wifi, and free fruits which include passion fruit provided by a local. Free ice pops, tea, coffee and snacks. It is a great place for co working although this place only has fans (no air con) so it was extremely hot.

The staff speak incredibly good English and are very friendly. A big bonus to staying at the Hidden Garden Hostel is the 7/11 which is opposite the hostel. Here you can buy cheap food and drink including the famous 7/11 ham and cheese toasties which are super affordable.

There is a weekly Saturday market on the street of the Hidden Garden Hostel Chiang Mai, which is super handy. The Saturday market was one of my favourite markets to visit. Here, you can get cheap food and even a foot and back massage for 160THB.

The Hidden Garden Hostel is in a great location as you can get to pretty much anywhere in Chiang Mai’s old town by foot, making it super easy to visit temples and do some sight seeing.

Hidden Garden Hostel Chiang Mai how to get there?

sleeper train Bangkok to chiang mai with all the curtains drawn,
Bangkok to Chiang Mai number 9 sleeper train

If you are coming from Bangkok I would suggest the no 9 sleeper train. This allows you to save money as it is overnight, therefore, you will not need to get any accommodation for that evening. I would advise getting the 2nd or 1st class cabin if you are taking the sleeper train as the seats turn into beds so you can sleep easily.

Another way is to fly to Chiang Mai. Although the airport is small it does offer international flights as well as domestic. It will take you just over an hour to Bangkok and 2 hours from Phuket.

I would recommend downloading the taxi apps Grab, Bolt and Indrive prior to arriving. Taxis in Thailand are super affordable and Chiang Mai airport is so close to the old town it will only take around 10-15 mins to get there. Just remember to add your card details to the app or you can also pay in cash.

Where to stay in Chiang Mai Hostel

There are cheaper hostels out there in Chiang Mai however my favourite hostel in Chiang Mai has to be the Hidden Garden Hostel. It has everything you need and is incredibly clean.

If you don’t like bunk beds but still want the hostel experience I would recommend the Entaneer Phostel. You can get a single or double bed in a dorm room which you will share between 3-6 people.
